Wichita Cultural Education Program

Pottery Class Begins August 26th

The Wichita Cultural Education Program is sponsoring the third annual Wichita pottery making class. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on August 26th, September 9th, and September 23rd in the Portable Building at the Wichita Tribal Complex, one mile north of Anadarko on Hwy. 281, then one half mile west on Wichita Lane.

Students will learn how to select clays best suited for pot making, to learn the hand-coil method of pot construction and to decorate, polish and to traditionally pit fire pottery. Instruction will be provided by Shawn Lambert, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Oklahoma. Enrollment is restricted to 15 students, 10 years old and up. Younger students may attend if accompanied by an adult. Enrolled tribal members will be given priority.
