As we reflect on the life and leadership of Former Wichita and Affiliated Tribes President Leslie Standing, we honor a legacy rooted in unity, service, and a deep commitment to the well-being of the Wichita Nation.
In his own words, “It is time for the Wichita Nation to come together and move forward. Wichita tribal officials must recognize the voice of the people and work together to improve the lives of our citizens.”
This was his vision 14 years ago, and it remains just as relevant today. I believe those who dedicate their lives in service of others do so with the hope of making the world a better place. Mr. Standing answered the call in more ways than one.
His message is a powerful reminder of the importance of listening, collaboration, and service to others. In that spirit, I encourage each of you to take time this week to engage in an act of service—whether through prayer, volunteering, supporting a local initiative, or simply helping someone in need.
As part of this effort, the Wichita Service Club will be preparing and serving meals on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. If you’re available, I know they would welcome your help and participation. Let us honor President Standing not only in remembrance, but through action that strengthens our communities.
