Family and Children Services

Indian Child Welfare (ICW)

The goal of ICW is to protect the best interests of Native American children and to promote the stability and security of tribal families.  This program works with Wichita families in the prevention of the break-up of families and takes those actions necessary to ensure that children who are removed from their homes as a last resort are reunified with their families - whether reunification is with parents or other relatives.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Child Welfare Services (Title IV-B, Subpart I)

Supplements ICW by providing services to Wichita children who have been placed in out-of-home care with emergency needs and for Wichita members who are involved in involuntary custody proceedings in state or tribal court.  This program will also assist families who are experiencing some type of crisis that might put the children at risk for child abuse, neglect and/or removal from the home.

Promoting Safe & Stable Families (Title IV-B, Subpart II)

Provides preventive services to families who have children who may be at risk for child abuse, neglect and/or removal from their home.  Services provided are based on the needs of the family to remain together and also provides services to families who have experienced some type of crisis that might put the children at risk.  This program teaches clients to identify their family's strengths and weaknesses by assisting them in finding workable solutions that promote life skills.  Referrals are made to address weaknesses that may cause the family to break up.  The goal is to keep families together.

Foster Care Program

Certifies individuals who want to become Foster Care Providers for our Wichita children who are in state and/or tribal custody.  If you have the time to spend with a child, can pass a background check, have room in your home, have a desire to help children in need and are able to provide a safe and loving environment, then please contact our office and begin the application process.
