Hinton, Okla. – The Wichita and Affiliated Tribes Closes on Financing for New Hotel

This last week, the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes (Wichita, Keechi, Waco, and Tawakoni) (“Wichita Tribe”) closed on the financing of its new Sugar Creek Hotel.  This business transaction with Arvest Bank represents a sophisticated effort combining a senior secured credit facility with a federal loan guarantee, through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, resulting in enhanced transaction security for Arvest Bank and more favorable loan terms for the Wichita Tribe.  The new hotel is currently under construction on tribal land near the intersection of Oklahoma Highway 281 and Interstate 40 in Hinton, Oklahoma.

“This is an incredible step forward for the Wichita Tribe and the continued growth of our economic development,” said Terri Parton, President of the Wichita Tribe.  “We are excited to expand our tourism, hospitality, and entertainment amenities on the Wichita Tribe’s ancestral land while creating jobs for both tribal members and the surrounding community.”

Sugar Creek Hotel, following a 15-month construction period, will stand as a 56,000 square foot, 3.5-star quality deluxe hotel with 100 rooms, an indoor pool and hot tub, retail gift shop, fitness center, arcade, sun deck, and other support amenities.  The hotel will be located adjacent to Sugar Creek Casino, the Wichita Tribe’s award-winning and state-of-the-art gaming and entertainment facility.  The Wichita Tribe expects to create and sustain over 40 new jobs at the Hinton hotel site.

“We would like to offer particular thanks to our project team for working with the Wichita Tribe to get this project off the ground,” President Parton said.  “Sugar Creek Hotel has a bright future in Hinton, and we are excited to continue to invest in the development of our community.”  The Sugar Creek Hotel financing project team includes: the Town of Hinton, as municipal partner and utility provider; Arvest Bank, with debt financing services; Innovation Capital, LLC, as financial advisor; Merit Gaming Group and Square One Consultants, as project advisors; WorthGroup, with architectural services; Brown Engineering, for project engineering; and Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker, LLP, with legal services.  Crossland Construction Company will serve as the general contractor for hotel construction.

“The Wichita Executive Committee committed to this project and worked diligently through the last two years to hire partners, review plans, provide input, review and approve contracts, and many other things to reach closing on this financial transaction and begin construction.  We also made sure to secure a BIA loan guarantee to best protect the Tribe and its assets.  We hope the hotel project, when completed, will spur more economic development in the Hinton area and within our reservation,” President Parton said.

The Wichita Executive Committee consists of President Terri Parton, Vice President Jarrod Prince, Secretary Myles Stephenson, Jr. Treasurer Claudia Spybuck, Committee Member Gage Boardingham, Committee Member Tiffany Lonewolf, and the late Committee Member Shirley Davilla.

The Wichita Tribe consists of approximately 3,800 members whose ancestors have called present-day Oklahoma their homelands since time immemorial.  The Wichita Tribe’s reservation is located in western Oklahoma, north of Anadarko.  In addition to Sugar Creek Hotel and Sugar Creek Casino, the Wichita Tribe also operates other businesses in Hinton, including a smoke shop, multiple food and beverage establishments within the casino, and Sugar Creek Inn & Suites along Interstate 40.
